Silver torch cacti can thrive in low-nitrogen soils without facing the consequences. Too much water will make the plants weak and lead to root rot.It is suitable for growing in loose, well drained and calcareous sandy soil.
cultivation techniques
Planting: potting soil shall be loose, fertile and well drained, and can be mixed with garden soil, rotten leaf soil, coarse sand, broken bricks or gravel, and a small amount of calcareous material shall be added.
Light and temperature: snow blowing column likes abundant sunshine, and plants bloom more under the sunshine. It likes to be cool and cold resistant. When entering the house in winter, it should be placed in the sunny place and kept at 10-13 ℃. When the basin soil is dry, it can withstand a short-term low temperature of 0 ℃.
Watering and fertilization: fully water the basin soil during growth and flowering, but the soil shall not be too wet. In summer, when high temperature is in dormant or semi dormant state, watering shall be reduced appropriately. Control watering in winter to keep basin soil dry. During the growth period, thin rotten cake fertilizer water can be applied once a month.
Cleistocactus strausii can be used not only for indoor potted ornamental, but also for exhibition arrangement and ornamental in botanical gardens. It is placed behind cactus plants as a background. In addition, it is often used as Rootstock to graft other cactus plants.
